Help me clean up this computer and free up space. Work in stages:

1. Sort the photos in the folder [DRAG YOUR PHOTO FOLDER HERE] into subfolders by year and month. Add the date to each file name. If you find duplicate files (same content, even if the name differs), move them to a folder called duplicates. Don't delete anything.

2. Look through the Downloads and Desktop folders. Give me a list of what looks like junk: installers, zips, temporary files, and files I haven't opened in years. Still don't delete anything.

3. Look for caches and other files that can be regenerated, including those from apps and tools I no longer use. Tell me how much space they take.

4. At the end, give me a report with what you sorted, the duplicates you found, what you recommend deleting or moving to an external drive, and how much space each one would free. I decide what gets deleted.

Only change what's highlighted. Copy the rest exactly: the rules that stop it deleting anything are part of the prompt.

STEP BY STEPFrom a full computer to a sorted one

  1. Install Claude Code with one command

    On a Mac, open Terminal. You'll find it in Applications, inside Utilities. On Linux, open your terminal. On Windows, open PowerShell. Copy the command for your system, paste it, press Enter and wait for it to finish.

  2. Sign in

    Type claude and press Enter. Your browser opens so you can sign in. You need the Pro plan. Claude Code does not come with the free one.

  3. Move into the right folder

    Type cd, add a space, then drag your user folder onto the Terminal window. Press Enter. You're inside.

  4. Paste the prompt and let it work

    Claude works in stages. It sorts photos by their real date, separates duplicates, finds junk and caches, and ends with a report of what it recommends deleting. With thousands of files it can take a while.

  5. Check before you approve

    Nothing gets deleted without your permission. Look through the duplicates folder with your own eyes and read the report before you approve deleting anything. That pause is your safety net.

  6. Free the space at the end

    Sorting on its own frees nothing. You get the space back when you move the heavy files to an external drive and, after reading the report, delete the installers, caches and downloads you no longer need.
